Adelante con Camp Perry!
Forward With Camp Perry!
A Major Gifts and Capital Campaign

Leadership of the Rio Grande Council, Boy Scouts of America, has started phase 1 of a campaign to raise $6.1 million to rebuild and grow Camp Perry, which opened in 1927 and is now in dire need of a makeover. The council’s board has identified more than $10.1 million in capital and endowment needs for Camp Perry.

The slogan “Adelante con Camp Perry!” or “Forward With Camp Perry!” represents the lower Rio Grande Valley’s strong Latino influence. The logo’s majestic palm tree has 12 fronds, each representing a point from the Scout Law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. Its trunk symbolizes the core of volunteers we need to support our young people so they can carry out the Scout Law.

There are three major reasons to rebuild the oldest continuous Scout camp in Texas. First, Camp Perry is one of the best retention tools for youth. Second, its affordability is crucial in one of the country’s most economically challenged areas. Third, collaborating with other community organizations and opening this premier facility for their use helps the council spread the values of Scouting through its programs. Moving forward and building strong values in youth continues to be of paramount importance to area families and the community.
