Venturers
Venturing is a program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women
who are the ages of 14 through 20 or have completed the eighth grade. The
program revolves around a special avocation or hobby interest of the youth and
adult leaders. Youth members heave the interest and the adult leaders provide
the resources and expertise. There are hundreds of different specialties that
a Venturing crew may pursue
Venturing Goals:
- To experience a program that is fun and full of challenge and adventure
- To become skilled training and program resource for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and
other programs
- To learn to make ethical choices over their families by instilling the values in the
Venturing oath and Code.
- To acquire skills in the areas of high-adventure, sports, arts/hobbies, youth
ministries, or Sea Scouting
- To experience positive leadership form adult and youth leaders and be given
opportunities to take on leadership roles
- To have a chance to learn and grow in a suppo
rtive, caring, and fun environment
- To use "ethical controversies" to help young adults develop the ability to make
responsible choices
What Youth Want:
- High school students have many vocational and a vocational interest
- Teenagers want to belong to a group that provides a secure place from which to
address the youth development issues that affect them. These issues include
experimentation; moving from dependence to interdependence; social relationships;
psychological changes and sexual maturity; re-evaluation of values
